Congratulations! After 9 months of labor, cravings, and sleepless nights, you're beautiful baby has entered the world.
After a couple weeks go by, most mothers start thinking about having professional photos taken of their newborn.
However, choosing the right baby photographer can be quite difficult. There are so many to choose from!
Not only that, but the prices of a photo session for your newborn range from $100 all the way up to over $1,000.
How can you tell who’s a true professional or someone just holding a camera?
First and foremost, check them out online.
1 - Do they have a lot of positive 5 star Google reviews or Yelp reviews?
2 - Do their websites display samples of their work?
3 - Do those samples look professional and high-quality?
Remember, the key is to find a newborn photographer who has tons of experience, a lot of props, blankets, baskets, etc. so you can get the best shots possible.
Next, make sure that the photographer’s pricing is commensurate with his or her experience and abilities.
Some people charge an arm and a leg and they aren’t even that good! Others are very new, so they charge less, but take incredible photos that could be sold for much more money than they charge.
Be sure to look online at their reviews, their websites, and their samples to get a feel for what you might be getting.
Also, call the photographer. Look for someone friendly and kind. After all, s/he is going to be holding your newborn and posing him/her! The last thing you want is someone who couldn’t care less photoing your baby!
Ask them why you should hire them instead of other photographers in your area. If you’re looking for a newborn photographer in Baltimore say that. However, expand your reach. Many photographers would gladly come to you or meet you in a local park to take photos.
That being said, if you prefer to have your photos taken in his or her studio, be prepared to take the drive to them. In that case, being local might be your best bet.
In terms of pricing, you don’t always get what you pay for. Beyond that, find out what’s included in your photo session.
1 - Do you get 1 hour of time? 2? 3?
2 - Out of all that time spent, how many photos will you go home with?
3 - Do the photos come on a thumb drive?
4 - Will you get 5x7s, 8x10s, or 4x6s?
5 - Will yet get a canvas, mug, or other keepsake?
Be sure to take everything into consideration when you make your decision to hire a baby photographer.
Remember, online reviews and the photographer’s online reputation should play a big role in your decision. After all, the photos used on their websites are typically their best work and unsatisfied customers will definitely review negatively.
Don’t be fooled by a cheap price and a pretty face. Do your research, think long and hard, and go with the person you think is best!
Again, congratulations on bringing your young one into the world!
